A Chart of Accounts is an index of all the financial accounts in the general ledger of a society. It's a tool that provides a systematically organized listing of every account in the general ledger broken down into subcategories .

The ledger contains the information that is required to prepare financial statements i.e. Trial Balance, Income & Expenditure Account and Balance Sheet. It also helps in Financial Analysis & decisions making.
